Dr. Kantsyrev brings more than 25 years of experience in investment management. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Qtron Investments, which under his leadership has grown into a globally recognized investment firm among consultants and asset owners. Over the course of his career, the Global and Emerging Markets equity strategies have received multiple prestigious industry recognitions, including Zephyr PSN Top Guns 6-Star Awards, Best Long-Term Manager from the Korea Investment Corporation, and Best Global Equity Manager from AsianInvestor magazine.
Prior to founding Qtron Investments, Dr. Kantsyrev was a Director and a member of the Operating Committee at PanAgora Asset Management, where he oversaw the firm’s Dynamic Equity strategies with more than $20 billion in assets under management.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Kantsyrev pursued an academic path. He served as a lecturer at the USC Marshall School of Business and Pepperdine University, teaching courses in financial analysis, corporate finance, statistics, and economics. Before transitioning fully into finance, he was a research scientist at the University of Michigan Spin Physics Center, where his work focused on accelerating and storing high-energy polarized proton beams.
Dr. Kantsyrev holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Southern California, as well as M.S. degrees in Mathematical Finance and Nuclear Physics. He is a CFA charterholder, has been published in the Journal of Portfolio Management, and has presented research at conferences and seminars worldwide.
Professor Fernando Zapatero serves as an independent Academic Advisor to Qtron, providing deep expertise in financial theory and its practical application. He works closely with Qtron’s research team to help shape the firm’s research agenda, evaluate investment ideas, and assess empirical findings.
Dr. Zapatero has a distinguished academic career. He is a Professor of Management and Chair of the Finance Department at the Questrom School of Business at Boston University. Previously, he served as Professor of Finance and Chair of the Finance Department at the USC Marshall School of Business.
Dr. Zapatero holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia University and has authored more than 30 academic papers. He has presented extensively at international conferences, taught a broad range of finance courses, and co-authored several books, including Introduction to the Economics and Mathematics of Financial Markets. He is an editor of the Quarterly Journal of Finance and serves as an Associate Editor for Annals of Finance, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Mathematical Finance, and Mathematics and Financial Economics.
